Wanderlite Canvas Weekender Bag-Spec Edit

Project Overview

Project Type: E-Commerce Copy (Product Description)
Client: Unaffiliated (Spec Work)
Role: Copy Editor
Deliverables: Edited product description with improved structure, tone, and conversion potential
Tools Used: Google Docs

Objective

This project focused on transforming a rough, unbranded product description into a polished e-commerce listing aligned with consumer-focused goals. The objective was to:

  • Improve clarity and flow for web readability

  • Shift from generic, repetitive phrasing to persuasive, benefit-driven language

  • Enhance tone and brand appeal by suggesting a more modern, adventurous voice

  • Structure content for easy scanning on mobile and desktop platforms

Reflection

In this spec edit, I restructured and reworded a basic product description to appeal to an e-commerce audience that seeks both functionality and style. I started by identifying repetitive language and vague phrasing (“a great bag,” “kind of soft”), replacing it with clear, engaging copy that highlighted both features and benefits.

I introduced a short brand-like tagline to hook the reader, emphasized key attributes like the heavy-duty zipper and removable strap, and used formatting to improve scannability. I also refined the customer review to preserve its authenticity while improving clarity and grammar.

This sample demonstrates my ability to rewrite underdeveloped product copy into compelling, on-brand content that could be used on a Shopify or Amazon product page, or a modern direct-to-consumer website.

Original

The WanderLite bag is a great bag for people who are looking for a bag to take with them on trips. It’s made of canvas and is kind of soft but durable too. It has two big compartments and a strap that you can remove if you want to carry it with your hands instead. The zipper is pretty sturdy and won’t break easily. This bag is good for weekend getaways, travel, or even for the gym or carrying stuff around during the day. It comes in a few different colors like black, green, and blue. Customers who use it say it’s very useful and practical and it lasts a long time.
