About My Career Journey and Aspirations.

In 2015, when I started studying for college, I thought I wanted to study engineering, but as I learned, I longed for a more creative and flexible field. I wanted something creative and independent, with plenty of opportunities to pivot. In my group projects, I was continuously drawn to writing our project reports, creating our presentations, and editing videos that highlighted our design process and solutions. We won Best presentation more than once.

I love to write. I like to teach. I love visual communication design. I like user research, discovering more about the way we humans think, so I can be an effective communicator of complex information. I like to bring an idea to life, using practical and logical tools and planning.

I didn’t see how that fit into an engineering career for me, so I switched to technical communication in my junior year. Technical Communication is a broad and flexible field with many applications and skill sets. While studying, I explored audience analysis, creative writing, instructional writing, user-centered design, research, user experience, user interface design, and visual communication design.

I tutored students in technical writing at all levels and helped students who spoke English as a second language communicate their thoughts clearly. I learned about using coding tools to create flexible, accessible, and responsive web pages, forms, and courses. I took on internships that explored Usability, Research, and accessibility, and ended up with a portfolio in my final year that made my professor inquire if she could hire me for my web design services. That was the spark. I love Technical Writing, but I also love expanding those skillsets into designing user experiences that help users achieve their goals with tools that are intuitive and beautiful.

Throughout my professional career, I continued learning and developing these skillsets. I worked with clients on their websites for their small businesses. I started an informative plant-based cooking blog. I earned a professional user experience design certification. I continue to deepen my understanding of web design, web development, and user experience design—adding more tools to my toolbox.

After working in the field as a Technical Writer, I am seeking to transition to a role that I can feel more passionate about. Whether that is as a technical writer in a software/coding environment, as a user experience designer, or as a front-end web designer.

I have discovered many passions along my path to a successful, fulfilling career, including humanitarianism, reading, writing, design, travel, photography, plant-based cooking, and more. I want to continue to live a vibrant life, exploring and enjoying these things, discovering more, and pivoting in my career to delve into all my interests.

Let’s keep life rich.
