What are the major deliverables required for the completion of this project?
Identify the things that must be delivered to the client to fulfill your service agreement.. Assign them to deadlines.
Then identify the Events and Tasks necessary to get those things–the deadlines–done.
Example:
For a generic photoshoot project, you may owe the client a certain number of raws, a certain number of edited photos, and a shoot day. Maybe the shoot would require extra equipment or a special shooting location.
Deadline 1: Deliver the Raws
Event: Photoshoot
Task: Schedule shooting location
Task: Rent extra equipment
Task: Sort and select the best photos for the raw photo delivery
Task: Get client vote on which photos they would like edited and editing preferences
Deadline 2: Deliver the Edited Photos
Task: Edit the client-selected photos
Task: Organize other files in the sorting system
Task: Send over the edited photos
Deadline 3: Project Wrap-up
Task: Send over the invoice
Task: send over the review form
Other concerns to consider when building your project timeline:
What is their priority based on the timeline? Are there any tasks or deadline dependencies?
Consider what Deadlines need to be completed before other deadlines. Does one deadline need to be completed to complete another deadline?
You can elect to schedule two deadlines to be completed simultaneously, but consider your time commitments and task dependencies between them.
How long will each task and event take?
Add them up to approximate the next deadline due date.
This timeline can be adjusted throughout the project, but a solid plan helps make this system the most effective for your project management.
